Questions
How long do we host a life story?
Indefinitely as long as the company is operating. We are also developing a download feature as an option for our customers.
How much is a life story hosting?
The App is free to use, and hosting costs do not apply.
Who can see my life story?
Those who are privately invited to join can see the life story content as well viewers within 5 metres of a publicly placed product for e.g. a cemetery or memorial park.
How is my information protected?
Our priority when designing our App was that it is easy to use and protects the legacy information of all users and life story’s. We have implemented Global Security Protocols and are constantly upgrading the encrypted systems to safekeep information.
Do we share life story information?
No, we do not share your life story, private information or media with third parties.
What does the beacon do?
The beacon allows a life story to be viewed within 5 meters via the ModUrn in App scanner. It also allows for easy on-boarding or to view a life story at a memorial, function or wake.
Is a beacon always included?
The beacon is included with our Memento Range, Memorial Smart Plaques and optional with our ModUrn Urns.
Is there any ongoing fees or costs for the App use or hosting?
No, however we may introduce new features in the future which you may choose to subscribe to.
Is there a maximum storage size for media and content on the App?
We can store 5GB of media per life story.
Can I store a video on the App?
Video links can be stored on the modUrn App.
Can I link a video to the App?
Yes, link video’s from YouTube, Vimeo and all other storage providers. Just make sure you video is set to anyone with the link can VIEW.
Can I save an MP4 or voice recording on the App?
This feature will be released this year.
Can I store photographs on the App?
Yes, as many as you like up to 2 gb.
What size photographs and media can I store on the App?
We recommend images be around 1mg to optimise your available 2 gb limit.
How long is the beacon battery life?
Up to two years.
What kind of Battery do I need?
A standard 3V Lithium CR2032 button battery.

How do I replace the battery?
Simply remove the capsule cover to replace the encased button battery.
Do I need a beacon?
Our Urn products have the option for a beacon and our Memento products come with beacon technology.
Can I turn the beacon technology off and on?
Yes the beacon can be set to off by pressing soft capsule cover – a red light will alert to off.
What size is the modUrn Urn?
Approximately 7.5 inches in height and width and holds up to approximately 1litre or 67 cubic inches of cremated remains.
How do the cremated ashes go in?
Through the sealed access top of the modUrn via a funnel.
Who fills the modUrn Urn with the cremated remains?
Usually the funeral service provider, you may ask for this service to be arranged should you already have a container for the ashes.
Can I fill an Urn at home with cremated remains?
Yes, however it can be challenging and you will need a funnel and plastic gloves. We recommend asking for this service to be provided by an industry professional usually at a small cost.
Do you have to be dying to have a modUrn or a memento?
No, many users are creating their legacy and life story for future generations before end of life.
When should I start my life story with modUrn?
It is never to early or late to start recording your life journey and legacy.
Is a Memento suitable for an older person to use?
Yes, our Memento range is a wonderful gift or project to do with a loved one at any stage of life.
Does the modUrn App prompt you to fill out the life story details?
Our App has many areas with prompted questions that you may optionally choose to complete.
Where does the beacon technology go?
At the base of the ModUrn and inside the enclosed Memento.
Is a modUrn and Memento water resistant?
Yes, however we do not suggest storing your Urn or Memento in water for long periods.
How heavy is the ModUrn when it is full of ashes?
Approximately 4kg.
Can I customise a modUrn with my own design and artwork?
Yes, contact us at info@modurngroup.com for specifications.
How long will it take to customise?
Up to Six weeks.
Can I add personalisation like a name, dates etc?
Yes, add 2 weeks for this extra service.
What is a Memento?
Is a small keepsake encasing beacon technology to connect to a ModUrn life story via the Hybrid App.
Can I put cremated remains in a Memento?
No.
Is a memento suitable as a gift or present?
Most definitely, sharing stories and spending time to connect with family by recording their story is a priceless gift.
Can I store my story on the Memento until I am ready to share it with the family?
Yes, it is up to you to decide to invite and share your story.
Is a Memento suitable for the cemetery, columbarium or memorial park?

Do I have to have the App to scan life story’s?
Yes, you will need to download the ModUrn App at the Apple store or Google Play store.
How much is it to use the ModUrn App?
There is no cost to download and use our App to view life stories.
Does my family have to pay to see or contribute to my life story?
No, it is free to enjoy and use.
What happens if I lose my password?
You can reset your password vis the App and or contact support@modurngroup.com for assistance.
Can I give a close family or friend a caretaker and admin access?
Yes, in the family and friends’ section you may adjust caretaker and admin roles.
Is there different administration and access levels?
Yes, we have four access levels; Viewer, Contributor, Caretaker and Creator.
What if someone contributes a story or comment that is not suitable?
All experience and milestone contributions must be approved by the creator or caretaker.
Can I delete a digital visitors book comment if I don’t like it?
Yes, a caretaker is able to delete visitors’ comments. Our comments section has an in-built filter for inappropriate language. ModUrn Super Admin has the right to remove inappropriate content based on user modUrn T&C.
Can I store my family tree documents on the App?
Yes, PDF and media can be stored in the Important Documents App feature.
How much information do I need to add?
As little or as much as you like.
How long does a life story take to set up?
Five minutes.
How do I share my life story with my family and friends?
Simply create an account follow the prompts to start a life story for yourself or for a loved one and select the share symbol.
What if I lose the beacon contained in an Urn or Memento?
ModUrn is able to disable and replace the beacon for a small cost-plus delivery.
Can I get another beacon to link to my life story?
Modurn Super Admin can replace a lost or stolen beacon in such cases if required.
Can I re-use a beacon for another life story?
No, once a beacon is associated with a life story it cannot be re-used and visa-versa.
